Sponsorship Opportunities

Australasian Team Roping Association (ATRA)

About Team Roping & ATRA

Team Roping (also known as heading and heeling) is the only team event in rodeo that relies on the cooperation and skill of the riders and their horses. The first roper, the “header,” ropes the front of the steer, usually around the horns, while the “heeler” ropes the hind feet after the steer is turned. The team is scored by the time it takes to head and heel the steer, with penalties for breaking rules.

Safety: Strict rules ensure the safety of riders, horses, and steers. Disqualification occurs for illegal catches or unsafe practices.
